  45. INSTALLAION
  46.   REGISTERED VERSION
  47.   If you are installing the registered version of this program, simply
  48.   insert the disc you received into your external drive and run the
  49.   setup program discribed below.  The disc contains all the necessary
  50.   files to run WinFin.
  51.  
  52.   BBS DOWNLOAD
  53.   If you downloaded the program from a BBS, you must unzip the files into
  54.   a temporary directory on your hard disc, i.e., "C:\temp".  The total
  55.   size of the unzipped files is greater than 1.44Meg and will not fit on
  56.   a single floopy.  See "SETUP PROGRAM" below for instructions to install
  57.   the program.  After installation, you can delete the unzipped files in
  58.   the temporary diectory. Note:  In order to conserve space on the BBS
  59.   and minimize your download time, the file VBRUN300.DLL may not be
  60.   included in you download.  You probably already have this file in your
  61.   \windows\system directory.  If not, it is readily available on most
  62.   BBS's.  Search for VBRUN3.Zip, etc.
  63.  
  64.   CD-ROM VENDORS
  65.   The files are already unzipped, uncompressed and ready to run.  Simply
  66.   execute WINFIN.EXE or use the menu interface provided with the CD-ROM.
  67.   See "SETUP PROGRAM" below for instructions to install the program.

  69.   DISC VENDORS
  70.   Disc vendors frequently provide their own installation program to
  71.   transfer the files from the disc to your hard drive.  If not, look
  72.   for the file setup.exe and follow the instructions below for running
  73.   the setup  program.
  74.  
  75.   SETUP PROGRAM
  76.   The setup program, setup.exe will copy runtime and program files to the
  77.   proper directories on your hard disc.  It will also create a Windows
  78.   Program Group with icons to run the program and bring up the
  79.   instruction manual for easy printing.
  80.  
  81.   From program manager, select 'File' and then 'Run'.  Type in the drive
  82.   and path that hold the program files to be installed, followed by the
  83.   setup program SETUP.EXE.  Thus from the external drive, you would use:
  84.  
  85.  A:SETUP.EXE
  86.  
  87.   or if the program files were stored in a directory called "temp" on
  88.   your C drive:
  89.  
  90.  C:\Temp\SETUP.EXE
  91.  
  92.   you may run the setup.exe from File Manager, by double clicking
  93.   on SETUP.EXE in your A drive.
  94.  
  95.   You will be asked to enter a directory for the program files.  If it
  96.   does not exist, it will be created.  The program files will be copied
  97.   to this directory and the other files copied to you WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  98.   directory.  A program manager group for WinFin is created.  Double
  99.   click on the "Instructions" to bring up this file and print it out.
  100.   No changes to your Config.Sys, Autoexec.Bat or INI files are made.
  101.  
  102.   PLEASE take the time to printout, or at least read, the WINFIN.WRI
  103.   file.  These are the instructions for the program.
  104.  
  105. PROBLEMS
  106.   PCTOOLS FOR WINDOWS-You may have a problem using setup.exe if PCTools
  107.   For Windows shell is installed.  If so, go into your
  108.   \WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI file, and under the the [Boot]  section, you
  109.   should find a line similar  to "shell=c:\cps\wndt.exe", without the
  110.   quotation marks.  If so, simply place a ";" (without the quotation
  111.   marks) as the first character in the line.  Then add the line
  112.   "shell=progman.exe".  Save the file, quit windows then restart
  113.   windows.  Then run a:setup.exe.  After installation,
  114.   go back to the system.ini.  Remove the ";" and delete the line you
  115.   added.  Save the file and Restart windows.
  116.  
  117.   It is best to close ALL programs except Program Manager when running
  118.   the setup program.
  119.  
  120.   This setup program copies several files to your \windows\system
  121.   directory.  If you experience a problem during installation or
  122.   trying to run WinFin, it is most likely due to an older version of
  123.   one of these files elsewhere on your hard disk.  Most likely in your
  124.   \windows directory.  Thus when WinFin loads it looks for these files
  125.   and uses the first one of the name it needs.  If this is an older
  126.  version, you will get an error message.
  127.  
  128.   For example, after a successful installation and upon running WinFin,
  129.   you may get an error message saying you are using an old version of
  130.   CMDIALOG.VBX.  The reason is that when WINFIN.EXE loads, it looks for
  131.   CMDIALOG.VBX.  If you have an old version in your \windows directory
  132.   and a new version in your  \windows\system directory, the program
  133.   will use the first one it comes across in your path.  The cure for
  134.   this problem is to do a file search for the file named as causing
  135.   the problem.  You may be surprised to find the same file name in 2
  136.   or 3 different locations.  The only one you want is the the most
  137.   current one which will be in your \windows\system directory.  Rename
  138.   the other copies to CMDIALOG.OLD.  When you do this you may get
  139.   another error notice that the file is in use and cannot be renamed
  140.   or deleted.  If this happens, simply exit windows and you may even
  141.   have to reboot.  You may have to rename or delete the file from DOS.
  142.   Remember, you want the files in \windows\system, so these should not
  143.   be deleted or renamed.
